Bird Brooch Competition!

For all my lovely blog readers, a chance to win a bird brooch of your choice (in slightly belated celebration of new packaging and more birds)! All you need to do is to leave a comment to say which is your favourite from the following fifteen. I'll draw names from a hat to find the winner and if you follow my blog/twitter or 'like' my Facebook page you get another entry in the hat, or two or three extra entries depending on how many!

Here come the birds (the swan also comes on a swanny piece of card, but looks better against the blue):

Competition closes at 23.59 (GMT) on Saturday. If you would like more information on a particular brooch or to buy one now have a look in my shop. Good luck and thank you!

Robin is definately my fav. I love those little robins. We call them 'roodborstje', which translates into: 'Little red chest'.
A few weeks ago I spotted one in our alley. I live in the middle of a city and we don't have gardens here, so I didn't expect to find a Robin. It was quite a cool surprise.

Love your work! Good luck with this competition =D

i love them all! ^^, think the robin may be my fav though! :)

Hello Kate!

I am going to choose the Robin-pin. Why? Well, I named my daughter Merel which means 'blackbird' in Dutch. We always joke that if we will ever be blessed with a little son, his name will be Robin...
You are a great artist, keep up the good work!

Love from Holland,

hoo-ah! I've followed you on Twitter (@diandramae) ever since I saw a tweet promoting your new book (congrats, btw!), and I stalk your Etsy shop.

I love your work, Kate! And you are inspiring me to go back to the collage I loved years ago and give it another twirl!

I think the woodpecker would make a nice addition to my arty bird collection. :D

Oh happy day! =) I found you on Etsy some time ago [urbanwhimsy] and have read your blog since, though I am not a "follower"...I do "like" you though [tabitha camille sumner/fb]

I have a small shop named Feathering the Nest, so you can perhaps imagine how much I love your art. My most favorite pin is the swan.

I do believe that the bee-eater is my favourite (although they are obviously all very lovely). I also believe that I might be the first male comment (sincerest apologies if I am not).

Been a big admirer of your work for a while now and it was a pleasure to be featured alongside you on creaturemag a little bit ago. Also following on twitter (@JamieMilk)

They are so beautiful! But I >think< my fave is the woodpecker, because he is so unusual (I never see depictions of them flying) & because he looks like he's about to fly off the page over my shoulder!

These are exquisite, the packaging is gorgeous, what are the made of?

Paul said...

sorry, woodpecker, but really all of them!

Kate Slater said...

Thanks everyone who's entered so far!

Paul, they're prints of my bird illustrations mounted on 2mm mountboard, cut out by hand with my trusty craft knife and finally varnished til they're strong and shiny. Glad you like the packaging!

Klay said...

it's really hard to choose but I'd have to go with the Robin. They always seem to win my heart.

Lesley Barnes said...

I would go for the pink flamingo! although I would ideally like all of them to pin onto a blue jumper...so I could wear my own flock of birds!

Unknown said...

Goldfinch is may favourite. The reason being is that we have a visiting Goldfinch who hangs out near our house and I can sense that as Winter fades and Spring is on its way, that he's on his way back. He sometimes sits on the telephone wire in front of my study. He's great company! Your brooch reminds me of him.

kirsty said...

It's such a tough choice, but I keep coming back to the robin! x

nicolakillen said...

These are all lovely and I really like the backings for them all too. If I have to pick a favourite it would be the hummingbird - it's beautiful. Fingers crossed! :)

I adore the hummingbird. We stay on an American relatives farm in Michigan most summers and they have hummingbird feeders there, it is so amazing to watch the birds as they hover to feed.
